9:30 AM: The Bustle of the Old Port and the Market Halls
Start your day along the Canal Royal. This is where the heart of the city beats, especially during the summer jousting tournaments, one of the treasures of Sète.
- The must-see stop: Les Halles de Sète. It is the temple of local gastronomy.
- To taste absolutely: The Sète Tielle (a spicy octopus pie) and the small Sète pastries. Take a few of them to take away for your lunch!
11:00 AM: A Shot of Culture (and Street Art)
The Venice of Languedoc is the city of Paul Valéry and Georges Brassens, but it is also a capital of contemporary art.
- Option 1: The MIAM (International Museum of Modest Arts), an unusual and colorful place that will appeal to both young and old.
- Option 2: The MaCO (Open-Air Museum). Follow the street-art trail through the streets of the city to admire monumental murals created by artists from around the world.
12:30 PM: Lunch by the water
Continue your day in Sète and sit down on a terrace along the canals or in the Marine district.
- On the menu: A brasucade (the typical dish made with mussels cooked over a wood fire) or a Sète-style cuttlefish rouille. Accompany it all with a glass of Picpoul de Pinet, the ideal local white wine for seafood products.
2:30 PM: The ascent of Mont Saint-Clair
It is time to gain height! You can go there on foot for the more sporty ones (via the stairs), by bus (line 5) or by car.
- The reward: From the summit (183 meters), you have a 360° view over the canals, the Thau Lagoon with its oyster farms, and the Mediterranean.
- Do not miss: The small Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette chapel and its astonishing interior frescoes.
4:30 PM: The typical district of Pointe Courte
Go back down towards the Thau Lagoon to discover the Pointe Courte district. It is the “fishermen’s district” par excellence: colorful huts, nets drying in the sun and cats wandering on the quays. A timeless movie setting.
6:00 PM: An aperitif facing the sunset
After your walk at Pointe Courte, head to Lazaret beach, the Corniche or the Saint-Louis pier to enjoy the end-of-day light. Sunsets over the Mediterranean often offer a magnificent spectacle.
Perfect pairing: Order a glass of Picpoul de Pinet, accompanied by some seafood tapas (anchovies, marinated octopus, tellines…).
8:00 PM: A dinner with Mediterranean flavors
